BY NICOLE DELAWDER • ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 2/9/17
A local man who was an accomplished skier died after losing control on Hunter Mountain on Wednesday, according to police.
The New York State Police at Catskill and the Hunter Police Department are investigating the death of Edwin Wood, age 58 of Warwick, at Hunter Mountain Ski Center.
Wood, who was an expert skier, was skiing on the Annapurna Trail, a double black diamond expert trail on Hunter Mountain's west side. Wood lost control and slid approximately 200 feet before leaving the trail and striking several trees. Wood was extricated by the ski patrol and then treated by Greene County Paramedics and Hunter area ambulance personnel before being pronounced deceased.
State police are currently treating the matter as an accidental fall and do not suspect any foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for a later date.
